Hi all,
I would like to do a three week Europe trip, hopefully hitting London, Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, and Dublin. I plan to travel in late April/early May. I would like to be in Paris for May 1, but that is not a requirement.
Since I have some flexibility here, I would like to aim for the cheapest rates and least crowds (wouldn't everybody). So here are my questions:
1) What European city has the lowest airfare from LAX? I would like to use London or Paris, how much more for them?
2) What days of the week allow for the lowest airfares?
3) Are there any fare changes in the month of May? For example, should I try to get back earlier in the month?
4) How do I find out where I can go with a rail pass?
5) How do I price the side trips, like London-Dublin?
6) How do I price and reserve lodging?
Thank you very much in advance for your helpful hints.
Cheers,
-tom

Re: Los Angeles to Europe
Mon, January 17, 2005 - 12:11 PM1 - Def. London i would say, just dont stay in london to long, really damn expensive. London is also the "gate to europe." Allows you to travel in a circle.
2 - I am not sure there is a day of the week that "allows for the lowest fares." RyanAir, EasyJet, AirOne, SmartWings, BMI etc will give you really good flights for really cheap. Flights are very competitive in EU/UK so they come off very cheap.
3 - May is high season, so there may be major price hikes, not only flights, but hotels too.
4 - Euro-Rail, Eurail, EuroStar, TGV, Thalys (do a google search). But most flights are so cheap, I would rather fly.
5 - Bus, Ferry, Train. FLights to Dublin on EasyJet cost me 45pounds return which i consider as really cheap.
6 - www.hostelseurope.com or www.hostels.net
Shout if you need anymore info :) - Fern

Re: Los Angeles to Europe
Wed, January 19, 2005 - 12:05 AM1) To find the lowest air fares you have to check out different website and input your flight plans. i use www.air-fare.com, but look at STA, travelocity, expedia. etc. It seems that London (LGW, Gatwick Airport) may be the cheapest destination. To fly into LGW was about $30 less than CDG (Paris charles de gaulle).
Airfare search engines allow you to search the cost of multiple leg flights. i found that flying in and out of the same city was the same price as ex. flying into LGW and departing from CDG.
2) as far as i can tell or what i have heard it is from sunday to thursday that is cheapest. but, google for arthur frommer or peter greenburg, they are travel gurus. almost any travel page has this advice on it.
3) there are fare changes. you can find out yourself by doing sample searches one traveling before the end of may and the other after. generally, spring travel is cheaper than summer travel which does begin around the end of may or begining of june.
4) www.railpass.com/new/. you can also inquire at an STA travel near you.
5) for side trips, decide upon transport, and hotel/hostle costs. add them up. or buy a travel guide that shows you local transport costs and hotel prices. www.budgettravel.com/
www.letsgo.com/
www.lonelyplanet.com/
www.frommers.com/
www.europebyair.com/eba/Engl...fault.jsp
www.ryanair.com
6) How do I price and reserve lodging? see above. google city name, hotels etc.
good luck
